Librarian’s Day Celebration on 21st August,2017

The Librarian’s Day 2017 was celebrated on 21^st August, 2017 in the Central Library to commomorate the birthday (12^th August) of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, who is popularly known as “the Father of Library Science in India” IIT Bombay started celebration of the Librarian’s Day since 2016. However, due to 12^th August 2017 being the 55^th Convocation day of the Institute, it has been decided to celebrate the Librarians day on 21^st August, 2017.

The following dignitaries were present on this auspicious day …

A large number of the Library and other staff and officers of the Institute participated in this celebration. The invited dignitaries addressed the gathering and appreciated contributions made by Library Professionals in serving the Institute and the society at large.

Prof. A. K. Suresh, in his key note address, highlighted on the important role of the Library Professionals in the making of a Library into an excellent abode of knowledge, where all knowledge seekers benefit and quench their thrust of knowledge. He expressed his best wishes for all the Library professionals. He further pointed out that a Library plays a vital role in providing support system to the research activity in an Academic Institution. His emphasis on the management of e-resources, usage analysis, policy for selection of e-resources, implementation of ICT in the Library services, effective digitisation of the archival material, effective usage of web portal for information dissemination and creating awareness of changing face of the library were worth inspiration for all of us.

Dr Jagdish Arora, the Director, INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar; in his power-point supported address gave a detailed outline on the role and responsibilities of the INFLIBNET. He thew light on the major ongoing projects and programmes of INFLIBNET and also focused on e-SS, ShodhGanga, Open access initiatives, NIRF etc..

The other dignitaries remembered the growth of IIT Bombay Central Library in the course of time and shared their experiences. A video of their respective talk is linked herewith.
